WOW - Wear Orange Wednesday

November 16, 2015

WOW

On Wednesday 18 November 2015, say thanks to our amazing State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers across Australia! Wear Orange Wednesday is a national day of recognition and appreciation for SES volunteers, who serve our communities 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is firmly behind this day as a time that we can set aside to thank those who go the extra mile in our community!

WOW 2

Through the compulsory Service component of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, Participants complete between a minimum 3 months (Bronze Award) to one year (Gold Award) of service within their community. A large number of Award Participants have volunteered at local SES branches over the years in order to complete their Award, which has provided Participants a sense of purpose, achievement and connection with their community.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award – Australia’s CEO, Peter Kaye AM has been involved in the SES for over 39 years.

“I am incredibly proud of my and The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award – Australia’s history with the SES.  Many years ago – when I was much younger and completing my Service component of the Award I chose to volunteer with the SES, it was an incredibly rewarding experience to assist my local community in times of emergencies and natural disasters.” -The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award – Australia CEO, Peter Kaye AM.

All of us here at the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award-Australia would like to thank the SES for their ongoing support of the Award in offering service opportunities for Participants.

So please remember to make Wednesday 18th November the day you wear orange to show your support of SES volunteers! For more details visit wearorangewednesday.com.au
