Duke of Ed delivers proven results

September 23, 2025

Boosting confidence, skills and career readiness beyond the classroom.

The 2024 Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Impact and Outcomes Survey demonstrates what many educators and community leaders already witness first-hand: the Duke of Ed is a proven non-formal education framework for building resilient, capable, and community-minded young people.

Global Survey, Local Relevance

3,794 young people from 37 countries, of which 793 were from Australia, took part in the annual satisfaction survey, providing anonymous feedback on their Duke of Ed experience. These insights inform continuous relevance to the needs of schools and youth organisations. Furthermore, the results confirm what many Duke of Ed Leaders and parents see every day: the Duke of Ed builds skills and self-belief that last a lifetime.

Drilling down to a local level, key outcomes include:

  • 76% report higher confidence
  • 80% greater determination and perseverance
  • 83% improved resilience
  • 81% now see challenges as opportunities for growth

Fostering Active, Engaged and Ready to Contribute Citizens

The Duke of Ed cultivates lifelong healthy habits and civic engagement:

  • 91% plan to maintain regular physical activity
  • 75% intend to volunteer regularly
  • 77% will continue developing new skills
  • 84% see the importance of contributing to their community

Such outcomes directly support government and school priorities for physical wellbeing and active citizenship.

Goal Setting, Building Employability Skills and Seeing the Bigger Picture

The Duke of Ed also strengthens career-readiness:

  • 96% now feel equipped to set and achieve life goals
  • 86% improved teamwork skills
  • 81% are more comfortable in new or unfamiliar situations
  • 81% are better at seeing other people’s point of view
  • 82% are more excited to try new things

These statistics underline the Duke of Ed’s role in preparing students for post-school pathways, whether that be employment, tertiary education, or vocational training.

Voices from young people on the value of the Duke of Ed:

  • “The confidence and extra benefits such as start points and resume achievements it can provide.”
  • “The most valuable aspect of my Duke of Ed experience has been the boost in self-esteem and confidence. Through various challenges and adventures, I learned to push my limits, set goals, and achieve them.

A Strategic Opportunity for Schools and Communities

By embedding the Duke of Ed into school and community settings, leaders can:

  • Strengthen student wellbeing and engagement
  • Support curriculum priorities and employability skills
  • Foster civic participation and active lifestyles
  • Build partnerships that meet local and national youth development objectives

Peter Kaye AM ESM, Duke of Ed Australia CEO says, “The 2024 survey confirms that the Duke of Ed provides a scalable, proven framework to help young people thrive and to help schools and governments meet key educational and community goals. For principals, youth organisations, and government agencies, the message is clear: the Duke of Ed is not an extracurricular “extra”, but a structured, evidence-based framework that delivers measurable personal and social outcomes and; recognises effort with formal accreditation for future opportunities.”
