Vale The Honourable Sir Guy Green AC KBE CVO

July 29, 2025

A long-standing supporter of the Duke of Ed in Australia.

We are saddened by the recent passing of Sir Guy Green, a long-standing supporter of the Duke of Ed in Australia.

As Chair of the Tasmanian Committee (1975–1980) and a member of the National Board, Sir Guy played a key role in advancing the Duke of Ed. In 1976, he secured funding for a landmark study into the impact of recreational activities on disadvantaged youth through the Duke of Ed, one of the first of its kind in Australia!

Sir Guy was Tasmania’s first locally born Governor (1995–2003) and served as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court for 22 years. He also chaired organisations including St John Ambulance and the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, and was a strong advocate for Australia’s scientific and conservation work in Antarctica.

We remember Sir Guy as a thoughtful, visionary leader whose contribution to public life and young Australians will endure.
