Screening this Sunday!

June 23, 2025

Join us for an unforgettable screening of The Great White Whale

A message from Adventure Film maker (and first ever Australian Duke of Ed Gold Level achiever), Michael Dillon:

“This Sunday, 29th June, is your chance, in the space of a few hours, to sail to and try climbing Australia’s highest peak.

When I did my Duke of Ed, we hiked to the summit of Mount Kosciuszko, and I was excited to stand on the summit of what I thought was Australia’s highest peak. But isn’t…

Australia’s highest peak is 500 meters higher, a snowy volcano on Australia’s most distant territory, Heard Island, in the Indian Ocean. And that’s the one we’ll all be trying to climb from our seats in the Cremorne Orpheum Cinema on Sunday afternoon, June 29th.

Using the Duke of Ed Framework gave me my love of adventure, and I became an Adventure Filmmaker, filming many exciting expeditions including three Everest climbs..

But the man who really got my career going was Warwick Deacock. He helped get the Duke of Ed started in Australia, and he also taught me how to use a movie camera. It was the very same camera he had used when he and his mates went on two expeditions to attempt to climb Australia’s highest peak on Heard Island.

I resolved to make a cinema film about those extraordinary expeditions, so we can all, in a sense, go on them too. Illustrated by the film they captured, these men tell (as well as sing) the story themselves - so many remarkable and humorous tales. For instance, the boat they sailed in for months through the roughest seas just to get to Heard Island had no toilet on board… and they had to repair the boat with cornflakes!

So entertaining is this film, thanks to these remarkable men and their awesome stories, that it has won many awards and endorsements.

You can find them and more information about the film here.
