Rest In Peace Ian Curlewis

August 27, 2020

Ian Curlewis, passed away gracefully in Orange on 19 August 2020, just short of his 91st birthday. Farewelled with love by wife, Beverley, and children Amanda, Luisa, Tony, Matthew, and their families. Ian was an instigator in the establishment of the Duke of Ed in the ACT in the early 1980s. At the time he was also instrumental in establishing Outward Bound Australia’s national base at Tharwa, ACT in 1978. Ian is the son of Sir Adrian Curlewis CVO CBE, who was our first National Coordinator, appointed by HRH Prince Philip in 1958, and went on to be the first National Chairman 1962-1973.

Ian was very proud of his strong association with the Duke of Ed and took a keen interest in its development. 12 months ago Ian and Beverly attended the Duke of Ed’s 60th Anniversary Gala Dinner in the presence of HRH The Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex KG GCVO.

The photo is of Ian Curlewis in 2017 receiving the Award’s Gold Distinguish Service Medal presented posthumously to his father Sir Adrian Curlewis by the then Governor of NSW, His Excellency General the Hon David Hurley AC DSC (Retd), with National Board Director Cameron Smart and CEO Peter Kaye AM
