Former NT Chief Minister and youth advocate joins as an Independent Director.
Natasha Fyles has joined the Board of The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award - Australia as an Independent Director, bringing extensive leadership, governance and community sector experience to the organisation.
A lifelong Territorian, Natasha is currently Chief Executive Officer of Somerville Community Services, one of the Northern Territory’s leading not-for-profit organisations supporting vulnerable individuals and families. She previously served as Member for Nightcliff in the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly from 2012 to 2024, including as the Northern Territory’s longest-serving Health Minister and as Chief Minister from 2022 to 2023.
Natasha joins the Board with a deep understanding of the positive impact the Duke of Ed Framework has on young people and communities across Australia. A passionate advocate for youth development and equitable opportunities, she has seen firsthand how the Duke of Ed helps young people build confidence, resilience, employability and life skills.
As both a former teacher and mother of two teenagers currently completing their Duke of Ed, Natasha brings both professional and personal insight to the role. Her eldest son recently completed his Gold Level, while her younger son is currently undertaking his Bronze.
Natasha has also played an active Duke of Ed leadership role in the Northern Territory, serving on the Northern Territory Board since 2024 and currently as Chair. She has long championed the Duke of Ed through her involvement with Nightcliff High School, where Duke of Ed registration rates are among the highest in the Territory.
Additionally Natasha is Chair of Cancer Council NT and a Director of Cancer Council Australia. She also holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Canberra, is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and an Associate Fellow of the Australasian College of Health Service Management.
CEO of The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award Australia, Helen White, said Natasha’s appointment comes at an exciting time for the organisation as it continues to expand its reach and impact for young Australians.
“Natasha brings an exceptional combination of strategic leadership, governance expertise and genuine passion for supporting young people to thrive,” Ms White said.
“We are delighted to welcome her to the National Board and look forward to the valuable insight and experience she will bring as we continue to grow the Duke of Ed’s impact across Australia.”
