Become a Donor
Help us support the Duke of Ed's growth, accessibility and impact across the globe by becoming a champion of young peoples’ infinite potential. There are different ways you can become a financial supporter from supporting young people in your local area to globally.
Right now, young people in particular face exceptional change and uncertainty. Yet, if given the opportunity, they will discover there is more in them than they think. With the necessary skills and experience they can become more resilient, adaptable, and ready for change. By creating opportunities for young people to develop skills through physical activity, service, and adventurous experiences, The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award can play a critical role in their development outside the classroom.
Help us support the Duke of Ed's growth, accessibility and impact across the globe and become a champion of young peoples’ infinite potential.

Award Benefactor
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Ambassador Program was launched in October 2009 by Her Excellency Prof. Marie Bashir, NSW Governor, and His Royal Highness The Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh KG KT GCVO, at a ceremony in Sydney.
Ambassadors for the Duke of Ed are members of the community who use their talent and networks to promote the value and importance of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award for young Australians. The support of our Ambassadors is vital to raising awareness and expanding the Duke of Ed across Australia.
The Commitment of our Ambassadors
- To provide a financial donation of $25,000 (100% tax deductible) that goes directly towards supporting Award Projects.
- To advocate for The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award across all sectors to assist in raising funds and awareness.
- Ambassadors after 5 years are invited to become continuous donors towards project and research work supporting disadvantaged youth.
Former Benefactor
The late Michael Crouch AC became The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Australia’s Benefactor in 2012, the highest status within our donor categories, and made possible a number of Duke of Ed initiatives during this time. Michael, through ZIP Industries, was a principal sponsor commencing in 2008 and served on the National Board for 5 years and was also the Vice President of The Friends of The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award in Australia.
Since his passing in early 2018, his family have continued to support The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award in Australia.
We are very grateful for the continuous generosity of the Crouch family.
Principal Sponsor
Mr Bill James
Bill James is a founding Director of Flight Centre Limited, Australia’s largest travel retailer and a listed company with 12,000 staff worldwide. Travel Associates, also a major supporter of The Duke of Ed in Australia, is part of the Flight Centre group.
Bill has published several books, the latest being a Field Guide to the Kokoda Track, a comprehensive historical guide for trekkers to this significant WW2 battlefield in Papua New Guinea.
Bill has a strong belief that the Kokoda Trek is a wonderful, life-changing experience for young Australians and in 2012, has generously provided funding to allow an incredible opportunity for over 300 young people from around the country – the opportunity to complete their Bronze Level, culminating in a guided Kokoda Trek as the Adventurous Journey component.
The Duke of Ed is largely self-funding in Australia with any grant support gratefully received from state/territory/federal government being typically directed to specific high need or special need youth. Donors and supporter's funds are 100% directed to supporting youth to undertake the Duke of Ed Framework. This is by way of assistance with their registration fee, their activity expenses (typically towards the cost of undertaking the adventurous journey) and direct costs of their Duke of Ed Leader (The Duke of Ed has approximately 60,000 volunteers). All donations are fully tax-deductible .
