The Honourable Shane L Stone AC, PGDK QC, B.A (ANU), LL.B (Melb), Grad Dip Ed Admin (Adel), Dip Tchg (Sturt), Dip FP, TPTC, FACE, FAIM, FAICD F Fin is a director of public and private companies in Australia and the UK including Mayfair Limited (Anne Street Partners Financial Services and QNV Constructions), Impellam plc (UK), Australia Pacific Coal Limited and AssetOwl Limited.
Shane is a life member and Fellow of the Australian College of Educators, as well as a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Australian Institute of Management, formerly a barrister in Victoria and NSW, and Legal Practitioner and Attorney General (NT).
Shane is an honorary life member of LAWASIA and Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia. He is the former Chief Minister of Australia’s Northern Territory and Federal President of the Liberal Party of Australia.
Shane’s philanthropic work has included Chairman Defence Reserve Support Council, President of the Order of Australia Association and Director of the Australian Children’s Television Foundation. Shane Stone has been the Chairman of the Duke of Edinburgh Award in Australia since 2012 and will retire this year. Shane and Josephine have two adult children and this year mark 40 years of marriage. Shane has been the recipient of the Nation’s highest civilian award the Companion of the Order of Australia, and national awards of Indonesia and Malaysia.
Nigel is a wealth strategist and works in the wealth management and funds management sectors. He is a founding director of Dimensional Fund Advisors (Australia), a global funds management business and chairman of a separate advisory business, Nigel Stewart & Associates. Nigel is also on the boards of and provides advice to several foundations. He is a fellow of: FINSIA, Financial Advice Association Australia and the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He has a lifelong interest in philanthropy and sustainability. Nigel completed The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award in Scotland and then served as a member of the board of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award in Australia. He is currently on the Duke of Edinburgh’s National Friends Board of Directors and is a past Chairman of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Awardees’ Association.
Nick is the co-founder of Merchant Place Investments, a private investment company with offices in Sydney and Brisbane. Nick also chairs the Investment Committee of JP Family Group, an Australian family office.
Nick has previously worked with global professional services firms in management consulting and investment banking, and was Chief Financial Officer of a multinational software company. He helped establish a number of successful businesses and has held a number of executive and non-executive directorships in the for-profit and for-purpose sectors.
Nick has been involved with the Award for many years, first as an Ambassador, and then as a member and now Chair of the Award’s Investment Committee. He was appointed as a Director of the National Board in 2024 and acts as Treasurer and Secretary.
Cameron Smart has over 4 decades of experience in the institutional-grade commercial property profession. Cameron began his career with Craig Miller Pty Ltd where he was responsible for the property and asset management of a portfolio of commercial properties, gained experience as a property valuer as well as exposure to court work in the areas of land acquisition, resumption and family law. Throughout his career with several high-profile property companies including Richard Stanton & Sons and Landsburys International (of which he was a founder), he has been responsible for investment sales and acquisitions for and on behalf of high-net-worth individuals, property trusts and institutions.
Cameron has also become involved with some of Australia’s leading commercial property owners, guiding their investment and development strategies, including but not limited to the Uniting Church in Australia. Cameron has been an active committee member of BOMA (the forerunner to the PCA) and a non-executive Director of the Uniting Church Trust Association, a role which he held for some 13 years. Through his involvement with the Uniting Church, Cameron has also served on School Councils, The Board of Education (the church’s governing body for its educational and conference activities) Burnside Homes and the Board of Finance & Property for 3 decades.
Cameron is a Non-Executive Director of Providence Philanthropic Foundation. Cameron is a board-appointed director on the National Board of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award- Australia (since 2012) and he also serves as Treasurer of The Friends of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in Australia. He is currently Acting Chair and also Chairs the Risk Management Committee and Structure Review Committee. Cameron is a recipient of the Silver Distinguished Service Medal for eminent service to the Duke of Ed in Australia.
Cameron is also an intrepid maritime explorer within excess of 5,000 hours at sea and since the age of 18 has enjoyed diverse forms of agricultural interests and pursuits in livestock (cattle & sheep) and cropping.
Cameron has always championed for the rights of those less fortunate, those in society who deserve to be heard but due to circumstances are unable to speak for or defend themselves. To this end, he has been an advocate for the “rollout” of the Duke of Ed campaign supporting those less fortunate from all walks of life to be able to undertake the Award and in doing so achieve their full potential. He has also had an involvement since his formative years with cerebral palsy, working to ensure those suffering from this terrible affliction are able to enjoy the best quality of life possible. Cameron has been fortunate to be able to bring this ethos to his professional career, acting on behalf of many disposed property owners to ensure they receive fair compensation from the acquiring authority under the “Just Terms Compensation Act”.
Angus Wilson is a Senior Managing Director of FTI Consulting Limited specialising in Corporate Finance and leading several of the FTI’s Market initiatives.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Angus was a Partner at KPMG Australia where Angus lead the firm’s Clients and Markets function for Deals, Tax and Legal, the firm’s Deal Advisory M&A practice for KPMG Australia and ASPAC Tax practices. Angus has extensive tax experience in Australia, Asia-Pacific and Europe.
A graduate of the University of Technology with a Bachelor of Business and Bachelor of Laws (Honours), Angus is a member of the Taxation institute of Australia.
Angus is a Member of the Advisory Board of NSW Positive Rugby Foundation, Board Member of Sydney University Football Club and Board Member of NSW Country Positive Rugby Foundation.
Pete McConnell has over twenty years’ experience working across Australian politics, communications, technology, and business.
He is currently an executive at Hakluyt, a global strategic advisory firm that works with some of the world’s most prestigious companies and most successful investment firms. It advises around 40 per cent of the world’s largest companies and more than three quarters of the top private equity firms.
Prior to Hakluyt Pete led corporate affairs for Woolworths and Snowy Hydro and consulted to the c-suite of many other organisations. He was Chief of Staff to the NSW Premier and founding an Australian technology company.
