The Hon Larry Anthony, CHAIRMAN

The Hon. Larry Anthony AO is a former Federal Minister for Community Services and Social Security in the Howard government and the former Federal President of the National Party of Australia. Mr Anthony is a professional company director having served on numerous private, public ASX200, and GOC companies. He is currently the Chairman and founding Director of the SAS Group and was appointed Chairman of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award – Australia by His Excellency the Governor General on 1 July 2005. Larry retired from his Chairmanship of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award – Australia in March 2012 and has now taken up the role of Chairman of The Friends of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in Australia.

 

Andrew Murray, DEPUTY CHAIRMAN AM BSc, BE (Civil), MBA

Andrew’s current position is Director, Wealth Management at Ord Minnett Limited. He graduated as a Civil engineer in 1966 and worked as a Consulting Engineer for 20 years before moving to the Investment industry in 1987. Andrew is an Honorary Fellow of Sydney University and an Honorary Fellow of St Andrews College where he was Chairman of the Council. He has been involved in Rugby Union as a past President of Sydney University Football Club & Australian Universities as well a past Director of NSW Rugby Union and Deputy Chairman of Australian Rugby Union. Andrew has been a Board member and a Trustee of the National Parks & Wildlife Foundation of NSW and a Member of the Friends of the Royal Flying Doctor Service. Andrew was awarded an Australian Sports Medal in 2000 and made a Member of the Order of Australia in 2016.

 

Cameron Smart

Cameron Smart has over 4 decades of experience in the institutional-grade commercial property profession. Cameron began his career with Craig Miller Pty Ltd where he was responsible for the property and asset management of a portfolio of commercial properties, gained experience as a property valuer as well as exposure to court work in the areas of land acquisition, resumption and family law. Throughout his career with several high-profile property companies including Richard Stanton & Sons and Landsburys International (of which he was a founder), he has been responsible for investment sales and acquisitions for and on behalf of high-net-worth individuals, property trusts and institutions.

Cameron has also become involved with some of Australia’s leading commercial property owners, guiding their investment and development strategies, including but not limited to the Uniting Church in Australia. Cameron has been an active committee member of BOMA (the forerunner to the PCA) and a non-executive Director of the Uniting Church Trust Association, a role which he held for some 13 years. Through his involvement with the Uniting Church, Cameron has also served on School Councils, The Board of Education (the church’s governing body for its educational and conference activities) Burnside Homes and the Board of Finance & Property for 3 decades.

Cameron is a Non-Executive Director of Providence Philanthropic Foundation. Cameron is a board-appointed director on the National Board of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award- Australia (since 2012) and he also serves as Treasurer of The Friends of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in Australia. He is currently Acting Chair and also Chairs the Risk Management Committee and Structure Review Committee. Cameron is a recipient of the Silver Distinguished Service Medal for eminent service to the Duke of Ed in Australia.

Cameron is also an intrepid maritime explorer within excess of 5,000 hours at sea and since the age of 18 has enjoyed diverse forms of agricultural interests and pursuits in livestock (cattle & sheep) and cropping.

Cameron has always championed for the rights of those less fortunate, those in society who deserve to be heard but due to circumstances are unable to speak for or defend themselves. To this end, he has been an advocate for the “rollout” of the Duke of Ed campaign supporting those less fortunate from all walks of life to be able to undertake the Award and in doing so achieve their full potential. He has also had an involvement since his formative years with cerebral palsy, working to ensure those suffering from this terrible affliction are able to enjoy the best quality of life possible. Cameron has been fortunate to be able to bring this ethos to his professional career, acting on behalf of many disposed property owners to ensure they receive fair compensation from the acquiring authority under the “Just Terms Compensation Act”.

 

Angus Wilson

Angus Wilson is a Senior Managing Director of FTI Consulting Limited specialising in Corporate Finance and leading several of the FTI’s Market initiatives.

Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Angus was a Partner at KPMG Australia where Angus lead the firm’s Clients and Markets function for Deals, Tax and Legal, the firm’s Deal Advisory M&A practice for KPMG Australia and ASPAC Tax practices. Angus has extensive tax experience in Australia, Asia-Pacific and Europe.

A graduate of the University of Technology with a Bachelor of Business and Bachelor of Laws (Honours), Angus is a member of the Taxation institute of Australia.

Angus is a Member of the Advisory Board of NSW Positive Rugby Foundation, Board Member of Sydney University Football Club and Board Member of NSW Country Positive Rugby Foundation.

 

Nigel Stewart

Nigel is a wealth strategist and works in the wealth management and funds management sectors. He is a founding director of Dimensional Fund Advisors (Australia), a global funds management business and chairman of a separate advisory business, Nigel Stewart & Associates. Nigel is also on the boards of and provides advice to several foundations. He is a fellow of: FINSIA, Financial Advice Association Australia and the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He has a lifelong interest in philanthropy and sustainability. Nigel completed The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award in Scotland and then served as a member of the board of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award in Australia. He is currently on the Duke of Edinburgh’s National Friends Board of Directors and is a past Chairman of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Awardees’ Association.

 

The Hon Sandra Nori, SECRETARY

Sandra Nori is a former Minister for NSW and member of NSW Parliament from 1988-2007. She held ministerial portfolios in Tourism, Small Business, Sport & Recreation, Major Events & Venues, and Women, and was Minister Assisting the Minister for State Development. Sandra has held several parliamentary committee roles and previously served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer and Parliamentary Secretary to the Deputy Premier and Minister for Health.

Following nearly two decades in parliament, Sandra commenced a non-executive director career providing her expertise to private and NFP sectors. Some current and recent appointments include: Director, Dance Health Alliance; Chair, World Dance Sport Ethics Commission; Member, Amnesty International’s Membership Committee; Councillor, Macquarie University Council where she also served on several of the Council’s Committees; Chair, Taekwondo NSW; Chair, Komosion Pty Ltd, a digital marketing software firm; Board Member, NSW TAFE Commission; Advisory Board Member, Luxury Travel Magazine; Board Member, Global Panel Foundation; and Board Member, Domain Resorts and Residences.

Sandra is currently appointed to both the National Board of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award – Australia as the Deputy Chair, and the Board of The Friends of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in Australia where she is Secretary. In 2019, Sandra was awarded a Gold Distinguished Service Medal. This upgraded a previous recognition of a Silver Distinguished Service Medal in 2017. Sandra is the joint first person to receive both Gold and Silver Distinguished Service Medals, recognising

Her significant contributions to The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award – Australia.

 

Charlie Buchanan

Charlie was born in the UK and relocated to Sydney, Australia in 2003 with her young family. Charlie is a Gold Award Holder, having completed her Award as a student of Gordonstoun School. Charlie has 25 years of post-graduate experience, primarily in SMEs within both private and public sector environment. She holds a B.Sc (Hons) in PE, Sports Science & Recreation management from Loughborough University. Charlie served as a British Policewoman before commencing a career in travel with the Flight Centre UK where she excelled in sales and leadership, progressing to Area Leader of London and the UK Executive team. Charlie used her experience to mentor and coach small business teams in Sydney upon relocation. Charlie has held numerous leadership and project roles and has demonstrated achievements in general management, sales, operations and procurement with the majority of her work in the sports, travel, events and corporate hospitality industries. Most recently, Charlie splits her time between Mudgee and Sydney and has returned to police service, joining the NSW Police Force.

Peter McConnell

Pete McConnell has over twenty years’ experience working across Australian politics, communications, technology, and business.

He is currently an executive at Hakluyt, a global strategic advisory firm that works with some of the world’s most prestigious companies and most successful investment firms. It advises around 40 per cent of the world’s largest companies and more than three quarters of the top private equity firms.

Prior to Hakluyt Pete led corporate affairs for Woolworths and Snowy Hydro and consulted to the c-suite of many other organisations. He was Chief of Staff to the NSW Premier and founding an Australian technology company.

 

Wendy Brown
