Australian Red Cross Lifeblood Volunteers with Purpose

June 26, 2025

A Duke of Ed volunteer who’s turning her personal story into purposeful action

Meet Mimi – one of our first Duke of Ed achievers to dedicate her Voluntary Service hours to supporting Australian Red Cross Lifeblood since launching our Duke 4Volutneering partnership!

When Mimi began her Duke of Ed journey, she wanted to challenge herself and give back in a meaningful way. We asked Mimi what her motivation was behind choosing Lifeblood, what she’s hoping to gain from her Duke of Ed experience and, bust a common Duke of Ed myth along the way…

🌟Motivation + Decision Making 🌟
“What inspired me to start my Duke of Ed journey was the desire to challenge myself beyond the classroom and grow as a well-rounded individual. I’ve always valued experiences that push me out of my comfort zone and help me learn new things, and the Duke of Ed felt like the perfect way to do that.”

🙌 Expectations + Goals 🙌
“Through the Duke of Ed, I’m hoping to gain more confidence in myself and develop a stronger sense of independence and responsibility. I also want to improve my time management and communication skills by balancing different commitments and working with others in various environments.

Another goal is to step into leadership roles when possible and learn how to support others in a group setting. I think the experiences I gain here will stay with me long after I complete my Duke of Ed.”

❤️Fit + Alignment ❤️
“Being a Lifeblood volunteer felt like the right fit for me because of how welcoming and flexible it is. I'm a very outgoing person who enjoys talking to others and getting to know people, so I really appreciate that there are opportunities to connect with different people and work as part of a team.

It isn't strict or complicated it's just a place I can give back and enjoy.

📣 Duke of Ed Myth Busting 📣
“A lot of people assume it’s extremely hard or overwhelming, but it’s actually very achievable and incredibly rewarding.

It’s not just a program, it’s an opportunity to grow, give back, and find out more about yourself.”

If you’re looking for inspiration on where you can complete your Voluntary Service Section, Lifeblood is offering volunteering opportunities to anyone 16 years or over.

Stay tuned as we grow our list of charities!
